Character: Edward Elric
Series: Fullmetal Alchemist
School Year: College Freshman
Background Info:
Edward Elric and his brother Alphonse used to live in a little town called Rizembool in a country called Amestris. Their father was a great alchemist, and they learned alchemy from the books he left behind. When they were 8 and 9, their mother died, and Ed decided that they would study (forbidden) human transmutation to bring her back. They trained under an alchemist named Izumi Curtis, and tried to transmute their mother after they went back. The transmutation didn't work, however (hey, there was a reason it was forbidden), and Alphonse lost his body while Edward lost his left leg. Ed then sacrificed his right arm to put Al's soul in a suit of armor. After a while, he decided to get automail (prosthetic limbs) and become a state alchemist to try to find a way to restore their bodies. The series centers on their search for the Philosopher's Stone, which reportedly can give them their bodies without them having to give up anything in return. And then spoilery things happened, and the pretty but plotholey movie, and Ed got dragged into Avoria while he's angsting about poor Heiderich at the end of the movie. =D
Edward is short. And he doesn't like to be told about it. He'll generally beat up anyone who mentions "short", "shrimp", "bean", "midget", "runt", etc, while sprouting nonsensical lines, and would need to be calmed down by his brother. He's also rather proud and stubborn; after all, it was his pride that he could do what no one else could that got them into this whole body-less mess in the first place. He is loud, brash, hot-headed, and easily prone to angsting. Angst subjects include how he wasn't able to revive their mother, how he lost Al's body, and how he wasn't able to save Nina. He is, however, hopeful on the whole and determined to move forward and put the past behind, and encourages others to do the same. He acts mean sometime, but deep down, he is caring and saves a whole lot of people he acts as if he didn't intend to. His arch-nemeses (arch-nemesises? arch-nemesi?) are Colonel Roy Mustang and milk.
